Hello Visitor,
ANZSRS (WA) Branch News September 2018
Greetings ANZSRS WA!
I hope you have all made it through the cold winter months, I’m sure it’s only weeks to go until we see some heat come back into Perth.
2018 WA Combined TSANZ & ANZSRS ASM Another great year for TSANZ and ANZSRS this year at the Local ASM. The ANZSRS session was a highlight, with a great mix of clinical and scientific perspectives. Thank you to all those ANZSRS WA members who supported this event, it was great to see you all there.
Niche Medical Professional Development Award A big Congratulation to Rebecca Hii, Research Assistant at the Telethon Kids Institute for winning this year Niche Medical Professional Development Award. Rebecca will be using her award to go towards research and professional development courses in Broome. Namely, Rebecca will be attending the Hot North Workshop in Broome (September, 2018). The Hot North Workshop connects research and clinical expertise across tropical Australia with respiratory health being one of the key research themes. The purpose of the workshop is to improve health outcomes and provide opportunities for collaboration. On behalf of ANZSRS WA, I would like to wish Rebecca the best in her travels, and look forward to hearing of her experiences at this workshop.
CRFS The next CRFS Examination sitting is on Friday October 26th 2018, applications closed for this on 21st September 2018. CRFS is an important credential for Respiratory Scientists/Physiologists, and also a great learning experience for those wanting to excel in respiratory Physiology. To apply for CRFS, please go to the ANZSRS website, www.anzsrs.org.au

Advanced Exercise Presentation
You may or may not have been aware that last year I was awarded the ANZSRS Advance Education Grant to attend the ERS Advanced Exercise Testing course in Rome on 22-23 Feb 2018. I will be sharing my experiences by way of a presentation at Fiona Stanley Hospital on Thursday September 20th 1215-1300 (AWST). This presentation is being held during the FSH Pulmonary Physiology and Sleep Education Meeting. There is a dial-in facility to watch this presentation by Teleconference, and the number is 08 6152 9621. Please contact me on 0450130931 if you cannot dial in - I will be available from 1205 to assist getting anyone wanting to remote in.
The presentation will focus on the normal metabolic, and cardiorespiratory responses to exercise and a discussion on some important parameters and the interactions that can be observed during a Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test. I look forward to presenting to the local ANZSRS cohort.
CRFS Study groups WA CRFS sessions are well underway with Ash, I would like to thank him for his efforts so far. Good reports have been made on these sessions, and I believe they are very useful for WA members wanting to get a head start on their CRFS exam. The next session is intended to be held in October prior to the next CRFS sitting, for those interested please be sure to get in contact by email to wa@anzsrs.org.au or directly to Ashvin on Ashvin.Isaac@health.wa.gov.au .
Upcoming meetings The next WA Branch meeting will be held in Late October/Early November, and likely to be hosted by the new Perth Children’s Hospital (TBA). More details to come, so please watch this space.
There has been some great attendance so far to the Branch meetings, but as always, there is still some room for improvement. Branch meetings are a great way to keep in touch with your colleagues around the state and to learn about some of the supporting companies to our profession, so I would encourage all to get involved where they can. A meeting may take an hour or 2 out of your day, and occur only every 2-3 months.
Finally, I will be starting to put together the ANZSRS WA end-of-year wrap-up for 2018 shortly. I am aiming to hold this event in Late November/ Early December hopefully before everything ramps up in the lead-up to Christmas. If there are any suggestions as to a venue that people are interested in, please email me, the sooner the better
If you ever want to make contact, don’t forget that the regional chair and vice-chair are always available to help with any ANZSRS related queries. Just email WA@anzsrs.org.au and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
Kind regards, Mike Beaven ANZSRS WA Regional Chair
